Cable & Wireless is a leading international telecommunications company with customers in 80 countries. For more than 130 years it has constantly reinvented itself to embrace the latest technological advances to serve its customers' needs.
Cable & Wireless provides integrated conventional and IP (Internet Protocol) voice and data services to business and residential customers, and services to telecoms carriers, mobile operators and providers of content, applications and internet services.
Outside the company's largest market, the UK, the 31 Cable & Wireless National Telco businesses each have strong positions in their primary markets. These companies provide a full range of services to business and residential customers and are closely bound by a common strategy; shared marketing, technical and regulatory skills; and established relationships both with each other and with national operators across the world.
OBS Financials is the primary accounting system used by Cable & Wireless throughout the Caribbean region where it is implemented into 15 business units – it is also used in the Maldives. OBS Financials enjoys a long association with Cable & Wireless having been used in the Caribbean since 1990 and the Maldives since 1995.
Application and technical support is proved by In2grate Business Solutions directly from the UK, this is facilitated by the use of a dedicated link provided by Cable & Wireless. All units operate General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and the Fixed Assets modules. In the Cayman Islands the Purchase Order Processing module is currently being implemented.
There are a number of major enhancements soon to be implemented that will provide Cable & Wireless with accurate consolidated information to facilitate more informed decisions. This has become very important following the recent de-regulation of the telecoms market in the Caribbean. This has seen an influx of competitors in what is becoming a fiercely fought telecommunications market place.
The new enhancements include a consolidation module that was rolled out throughout the Caribbean in the second quarter of 2006. As many business units operate in different currencies this will provide a translated consolidated view of the whole regional business. Full integration between all 15 Business Units General Ledgers has been developed to streamline the inter-company charging process allowing all accounts to be balanced on a daily basis across the whole region.
The ease of integration with OBS Financials has convinced the Maldives Telecoms Company (Cable & Wireless is a minority shareholder) that major benefits can be achieved by integrating many of its sub-systems including payroll, sales, purchasing directly into ledgers. This will save time from re-keying and will provide an accurate and up to date over-view of the operation.
